ShipIndex.org: a vessel research database
We've been talking with folks about ShipIndex.org, and we have the videos to prove it. Last month, Sue Malek of the Truckee Meadows Community College's remarkable weekly Open Genealogy Lab invited Peter to talk about ShipIndex.org and how genealogists can use it to learn more about their ancestors' experience. You can see the video from that presentation on the TMCC YouTube channel.
This week, ShipIndex.org will be attending and exhibiting at the Maritime Heritage Conference in Buffalo, New York. This conference, following immediately after the World Canals Conference, is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Erie Canal. On Wednesday morning, the new iteration of the Seneca Chief will leave Buffalo, headed for Albany - the first vessel to travel the length of the Erie Canal. We're gonna just miss the departure of the new Seneca Chief, unfortunately, but we are looking forward to another excellent Maritime Heritage Conference.
In October, Peter will be presenting a webinar for the UK's Society of Genealogists. If you're not already a member, the cost to attend is £10. This presentation will be improved by Peter's visit to London, between Buffalo and the webinar! Looking forward to visits to the Caird Library at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich; the Guildhall Library, which houses the Lloyd's Register archive; and the British Library, one of the very greatest libraries in the world.
We hope you'll be able to join us at one or more of these events, or watch the videos when they're available.
