USS Nevada (BM-8) was a United States Navy monitor ship commissioned in 1903. It served during World War I, participating in convoy duties and coastal defense. The ship was briefly decommissioned in 1919 but returned to service in 1920, operating in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. During the interwar period, USS Nevada underwent several modernization and armament upgrades. In World War II, the ship was stationed in Pearl Harbor and was present during the attack on December 7, 1941. Despite sustaining damage, USS Nevada managed to get underway during the attack, becoming the only battleship to do so. The ship underwent repairs and upgrades, returning to service in 1942 to support operations in the Pacific theater. It participated in the Battle of Attu and the Aleutian Islands campaign before being transferred to the Atlantic for training duties. USS Nevada was decommissioned in 1946 and ultimately sunk as a target ship during atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1948. Its wreckage remains underwater as a memorial to its service and the events of World War II.
